National Elephant Day

Today is National Elephant Day, this morning there was a huge feast of fruit and veg for the elephants with all different TV stations filming the event.

To honor this gentle yet powerful animal the Thai National Elephant Day was proposed on 13 March. The National Thai Elephant Day or Chang Thai Day helps to draw people's attention to see how important elephants are to Thailand and to show closely the relationship between Thai people and elephants. Moreover, this event also raises public awareness to protect and conserve the elephant population for our next generations.

V.i.Ploy Wedding

Today was the wedding of Ploy (the daughter of Pi Om and Pi Lek) and Vip. We were woken up at 3:33 am by very loud music, there were hundreds of people, roaring pink elephants, a beautiful ceremony and huge chinese lunch. What a day to be at Elephantstay!

Suphanburi Light & Sound Show

Elephantstay guests and staff were given a real treat today when we went to see one of the light and sound shows that some of the elephants are involved in at a town called Suphanburi. The show is spectacular, so many people involved in telling the story of Thailands history but of course the elephants were the stars.

RIP Plai MongKonAiyarat

On January 17th we woke to find that Plai MongKon was sick. He was moved into the wash bay to give him some stability and to be treated. One of the top vets in Thailand, Dr Chitsanu, came to examine him and diagnosed a gastric ulcer. After 3 long days of intensive round the clock treatment he succumbed to his aggressive illness and died in the early hours of Monday morning. He was a magnificent and very striking bull elephant, who will be greatly missed.

Its cold!

The weather has been really quite cold recently and so the older girls have had a fire lit for them at night and some of them have been wearing blankets.
